CBRE, a global real estate and investments company, are industry leaders in the effort to create greater equity in supply chains. They wanted to take part in our innovative Hackathon format to support their ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) goals and internal volunteering targets. Our Activate! Hackathons bring together corporate volunteers and Global Majority small/medium enterprise (SME) leaders for a fun, engaging day of problem solving and skill sharing.
Our Impact
Three SMEs, Parent Skills 2 Go, Feed Me Good and RMUK Wellbeing brought examples of individual challenges facing their businesses to tackle alongside CBRE colleagues. Taking part enabled the individual SMEs to leave with clear actions to help their business grow, including: a new communications plan and social media strategy; a full plan for a new pitch deck to attract corporate sponsorship; and an amended bid pitch, a new annual budget and fundraising strategy.
Through an interactive session, with lots of movement and games (and even some dancing!), the day also supported team bonding among the CBRE team.
What it’s like to work with BUD Leaders
[A hackathon gives] the opportunity to learn about the fantastic life changing activities Global Majority women are doing and we also get to add value by helping to resolve a challenge they need solving. I did not expect that the session would have me dancing around the room, energised, giving my whole self to the challenge, most importantly meeting great SMEs changing the world step by step and reconnecting to CBRE colleagues. I really hope we do more of these sessions so that more CBRE leaders can experience the joy and fulfilment I felt”.

“I had such a fantastic day volunteering at the Hackathon event! This is a great way to connect with different types of organisations and utilise your skills and experience in a really fun and different format! The session was well organised, lighthearted but with some really practical takeaways! Thoroughly recommend!”

DE&I initiatives Lead, CBRE
“It was a full-on day, but the benefits are enormous. We knew we needed support but were not quite clear how this would work out. The session brought clarity and direction for us not just for our social media platform but also in terms of how to meet and speak with funders. I appreciate the humility with which the team from CBRE worked and supported us without judgement. Thank you.”
